The broad objectives of this agreement are to promote cooperation in teaching and research, to facilitate the international exchange of ideas and to enhance the scholarly efforts of the participating persons and the partner institutions.

II.  MODES OF COLLABORATION

  1. Modes of collaboration may include the exchange of faculty, students and scholarly publications; the organization of joint colloquia, seminars and conferences, and the development of joint research projects.
  2. All disciplines within the field of Humanities and Social Sciences represented at the two universities may be involved in the exchange activities.

Initial exchange activities are being organized in the Faculty of Arts, especially the Research Institute for History and Culture (OGC) of the Universeit Utrecht and the College of Letters and Science of UCLA.

FACULTY EXCHANGE

  • Both universities agree on a basic facilitating UCLA-UU exchange that allows for faculty, including post-doctoral fellows, from either university to visit and to teach with the home institution paying salary as if the person were at home.
  • The number of faculty that will be exchanged is presumably one or two a year, but seen as open-ended.
  • Post-doctoral fellows will be assumed to be in residence for research purposes, when wanted or needed.  They can also be engaged in teaching.
  • The OGC will pay for their Utrecht faculty travel and the College of Letters and Arts will do the same for their faculty travel.
  • Both parties take upon themselves to provide housing for individual faculty who are teaching at no cost to the host university. Cost of rentals in both places is comparable.
  • Connections with OCG-UU will also be connections with the major Dutch national graduate schools in History, Art History, Literature, Women's Studies and Indonesian Studies.
